It is our desire at HMS to create and promote an atmosphere here that will be conducive to promoting our students’ success academically and socially. To that end we are continually examining and re-examining our standards and practices to ensure that we are providing an environment that will best aid our students’ development in these areas.
One aspect of our commitment to excellence is our dress code. Our standard of dress is high (for both students and faculty) and we believe it is an essential part of our culture at Hope. Through a series of conversations within the faculty and with students and parents, we have come to the conclusion that we need to clarify a few points within our dress code. In addition to the standards already in place in our Dress Code, the following changes will go into effect immediately:
- Girls may wear one hair band and/or one hair tie in their hair. Objects (such as combs, pencils, sticks, etc) may not be worn. Any hair band or tie must be uniform colors (clear, navy blue, black, burgundy, white or dark brown) and may not have any designs or writing on them. Neither bands nor ties may fall any longer than a girl’s neck line.
- Students are allowed to wear one ring per hand and one bracelet per arm, but the bracelets must be uniform colors (clear, navy blue, black, burgundy, white or dark brown) or gold or silver. A watch counts as a bracelet. No rubber bands allowed. Necklaces may not be worn as bracelets.
- Nothing is allowed to hang from any part of the uniform (ie. Price tags or any other tags).
- Students are not allowed to wear jeans (or other pants) under their school pants. Long underwear or tights may be worn when it is cold, but must not be visible.
Thank you for your help, understanding and support in these and all matters pertaining to HOPE Middle School. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (414) 828-8166.
